The Topic: What would tempt you into watching a charity TTRPG stream show?
There’s a charity one shot TTRPG stream, what would make you think about watching the show?
- If it’s a charity I love and support.
- If it’s a game system I really am interested in.
- If I know or support some of the player
Jes the Human
We spoke with Jes the Human, who has run many, many gaming charity streams. They agreed that the players make the most difference. They also ensure they have a diverse panel, which is so important. You can check out their efforts here: charittrpgs.substack.com
Jes also won a 2026 CRIT award for their “No ICE in Minnesota” Charity TTRPG bundles, and they are nominated for a Creator Impact award.

I would say any of those, but mostly [If I know or support some of the player]. Even then, I won’t watch the whole thing. I would rather listen to an AP podcast, but that’s much harder for a charity event

[If it’s a game system I really am interested in and If I know or support some of the players] have lured me in before, but for whatever reason I keep charity separate from my hobbies & social activities.

I’d first pick [If it’s a game system I really am interested in and If I know or support some of the players] unless the charity happened to be something I’m very passionate about then [If it’s a charity I love and support] could slip in.

I enjoy playing a charity one shot, but I have to know people involved to want to watch. So generally people, then charity, then maybe game systems? Usually the charity part introduces enough chaos that the system doesn’t really shine through.

Wrapping It Up
For any actual play podcast, streams and shows, they key are the players. That might mean having players who are charismatic, funny or interesting on stream, or it might mean watching people who you know, who have built a community.
Shows are a great way to learn about new games, but the game system is a secondary thought when building an audience.
