Let’s hear from Josh!
Let us know what Stuff You Do
A self-described Josh of all trades, my passion is learning new and complex hobbies quickly and seeing how I stack up with the pros. I’ve put more time into music composition, software, video, and audio production, improv comedy, and aerial acrobatics than most other things, but I’m always on the lookout for something new! Lately I’m the resident Dungeon Newbie for the podcast Crash Course DM, where we document my journey as a newbie Game Master for a home-brew TTRPG with DnD5e rules as the backbone.

What attracted you to TTRPGs?
I love love LOVE the creative aspect and telling stories WITH the adventure party, instead of coming fully prepped to have a story thought out to the end.

What is your favorite video game or board game?
Favorite all-time video game: Morrowind Favorite board game: We Didn’t Play-Test This At All

Describe your ideal job or assignment in the TTRPG space
Writing One-Shots and GM’ing for new (or at least new to me) concepts for TTRPG games.

What childhood cartoon would you like to play as a TTRPG?
Aaah! Real Monsters! would be a _stellar_ TTRPG backdrop.

Have you ever felt like an outsider in the TTRPG space? Describe if you can.
Up until probably my 3rd GM session I felt like a total intruder. “You are in no way qualified to be doing this!” but my adventure party is really supportive, and let me play a few sessions together with them, as an player, before jumping into GM’ing. And even in being a GM we have an understanding at the table that questions are always okay and sometimes I’m going to goof up 🙂

Anything else you’d like us to know:
Jason (aka “shadomain” on the socials) actually gave us some feedback for our podcast, Crash Course DM, on Twitter and suggested our Debrief with the DM include player feedback. Specifically we’re adopting his idea for “Hearts and Wishes” our future sessions starting with Episode 7. The team was really excited to do it, and I think it ads a missing element to the show overall. Super thankful!

Thanks, Josh! I’d like to point out that the idea of Hearts and Wishes (aka Stars and Wishes) came from my friend and fellow TTRPG’er GutsMcGurt.
