Stuff You Do:

Do you prefer GMing or Playing, and why?

I am passionate about teaching people about older aspects of D&D. Through YouTube and social media, I hope to show everyone how captivating and amazing earlier, less well known parts of the game can be! D&D has changed a lot over the years and that has unfortunately created a divide between newer and older players. I sincerely hope that by showing newer players the ins and outs of earlier editions of D&D that I can foster a little bit of understanding and a better sense of community. It is also really cool to learn about the newer parts of the hobby as I strive to keep the older ones relevant.

What is your favorite video game or board game?
So many to choose from! I guess I would say Sea of Thieves or Minecraft for video games and Castle Risk or the LEGO Heroica game for board games.

What advice do you give to players looking to try TTRPGs?
Dive right in! Talk to the GM and get a sense of what the game sessions are like. Each group is different. Does the group focus on role playing, combat mechanics or something else? What is everyone looking to get out of it? Does this match up with what you’re looking to do? Above all else, make sure everyone is committed to having fun!

You can create a creature by making any real world object, plant, animal sentient. What would it be?

I would create a sentient sea turtle. They live such a long time and travel so far, it would be such an amazing creature to befriend!

What do you think is absolutely essential in creating a safe space for all in a TTRPG game?
Having all the players involved be on the same page when it comes to respecting each other, loving the game and being dedicated to having fun.

Thanks, Jim!
