Coming in October 2026: Horrors of Pinocchio—Across the Fableverse.
The Horrors of Pinocchio—Across the Fableverse is a dimension spanning adventure where the heroes fight through different genres in their quest to stop the supervillain Gepetto and save Pinocchio, with a bit of luck. The adventure uses Monte Cook Games’ Cypher (2026) rules. Each character represents a trope (Guardian, Brain, Ally, etc.) and their Type changes as they transition from the genre of one dimension to another. The Horrors of Pinocchio—Across the Fableverse is a short adventure with rules to ensure the heroes arrive at the final conflict in a 2, 3 or 4 hour session—whether they’re ready or not.

Horrors of Pinocchio was first published in 2023 as a collection of five mini scenarios—each exploring a different genre—to use in your Cypher Systems role playing games. This book; The Horrors of Pinocchio—Across the Fableverse is a complete story where the characters are members of a universal freedom force chasing a villain across dimensions. Pre-gen characters are provided which change their abilities as they cross dimensions, shifting genres.
Your Tracker is an elf archer in the fantasy dimension, a star pilot in the sci-fi dimension, and a survivor in the post-apocalypse dimension. Your base abilities are maintained, but you gain one special ability in each dimension.
The adventure has a time-based mechanism so that as the session nears its time limit, the heroes are transported to confront the super villain Gepetto. The heroes must use the time before that jump to chase the many corrupted forms of their ex-colleague Pinocchio to collect information and powers to help them in the final confrontation.
A marionette comes to life and claims to be an actual child. He obsessively lies which causes his nose to grow seemingly without limits. When he strays towards evil his head transforms into one of a donkey. He claims he takes advice from a sentient insect.
That’s… pretty creepy, right?
Pinocchio is a story first published in the children’s novel The Adventures of Pinocchio in 1883 written by Italian author Carlo Collodi of Florence, Tuscany. Many interpretations of the story are softened to be more appropriate for children. That’s not what this book is about. In the original story Pinocchio kills the talking cricket with a hammer and has his feet burned off and is hung from a tree and left for dead.
We’re going to lean into the weirdness and spookiness of this story to create an adventure which spans five different genres; cyberpunk/post-apocalyptic, fantasy, gothic/steampunk, Pulp noir, and sci-fi.
