Let’s hear from Kate!
Stuff You Do:
I’m a member of the cast of both Dungeons & Doctorates (an actual-play TTRPG podcast about 3 PhD students at a fantasy university) and the Meeples & Dragons “Radiant Shadows” stream (fortnightly on the Meeples and Dragons Twitch channel). I also guest on a bunch of other streams and podcasts, have participated in Jaspers Game Week Aussie Edition 2 years running, and ran a panel at PAX Australia entitiled “Crit or Kiss The Monster Manual” which was exactly as NSFW as you’d expect.
What Game System have you not played that you really want to try?
I love the rule set for Blades in the Dark, but am yet to actually play a session. A friend of mine is also in the midst of creating his own system, so I’m looking forward to some trial games of that in the beta testing phase.
What is your favorite video game or board game?
I have a lot of love for words, so games like Balderdash, Codenames and Taboo have always been ones I’ll gravitate towards.
If you created a TTRPG about anything, what would it be like?
I think there is some really interesting Aboriginal Australian stories and lore that would make for a really interesting setting – combined with some truly terrifying animal monsters to boot.
What celebrity would you like to GM or play an RPG with?
Other than Aabria Iyengar and Brennan Lee Mulligan (because, as a trained improviser, their energies are the kind I like to play with), I think it would be really fun to play a game GM’d by Sir Ian McKellen or Hugh Laurie.
What do you think is absolutely essential in creating a safe space for all in a TTRPG game?
Open lines of communication and respect. There’s little to no point in saying that you have ways for people to bring up concerns if, in reality, people aren’t comfortable using them/don’t think they’ll be listened to.
Thanks, Kate!
