A Nerdy Lifestyle Brand for Gamers
By Melissa Campbell aka GamerMomLuna
RollACrit, a Delaware-based company, is making waves in the tabletop gaming community by blending the nostalgia of ThinkGeek with a fresh focus on board gamers. Derek Konyshak, the company’s events manager, shared insights into RollACrit’s journey and what sets them apart from other tabletop RPG (TTRPG) and board game merch vendors.
Reviving ThinkGeek’s Spirit
If you were ever a fan of ThinkGeek, you’ll be happy to know that RollACrit carries forward its spirit. After GameStop acquired and eventually shut down ThinkGeek, some of the original product design team came together to form RollACrit. The mission? To continue crafting high-quality, nerdy products with a focus on board gamers. One iconic ThinkGeek item that made the transition is the “Bag of Holding,” beloved by many for its practicality and geeky appeal.
Flagship Products and New Ventures
One of RollACrit’s standout products is the board game Heroes of Barcadia. Originally conceived as an April Fool’s joke by ThinkGeek, the concept sparked so much enthusiasm that it was eventually brought to life. The game’s expansion, recently funded through Kickstarter, introduces six new characters, including a collaboration with Voodoo Ranger, a popular craft beer brand. The expansion adds modular content, new tiles, abilities, and the quirky Die of Arcane Chaos, which brings unpredictable elements to gameplay.
RollACrit’s product lineup also includes dice, dice bags, and other board game accessories, all crafted with the same dedication to quality that characterized ThinkGeek’s offerings.

Building a Community Through Events
Although RollACrit operates mainly online, the company has a strong presence at major gaming conventions. You can find them at PAX East, PAX Unplugged, and GenCon, where they not only showcase their products but also manage the GenCon store, curating merchandise year-round for the event.
Derek explained that the team’s extensive experience in product design, combined with their dedication to quality, helps them stand out. With just four full-time employees, RollACrit leverages its creative roots and community engagement to punch above its weight in the industry.
Innovative Design and New Collaborations
Creativity is at the heart of RollACrit’s product development. Aaron, the company’s founder and a former ThinkGeek product designer, brings innovative ideas to the table, including integrating unusual components like plastic cups into board games. Collaborations with brands like Voodoo Ranger reflect their willingness to explore fun, unexpected partnerships.
Supporting the Community
Derek also highlights the importance of supporting small game designers, especially in uncertain economic times. Tariffs and production costs are impacting the gaming industry, making it crucial for fans to support their favorite creators.
RollACrit’s dedication to maintaining quality while embracing creative risk-taking ensures that their products resonate with passionate gamers. As they continue to expand their product lines and partnerships, RollACrit remains a dynamic presence in the TTRPG and board game community.
Stay tuned for more from RollACrit, and make sure to catch them at the next gaming convention!
